Catherine Garza Flores

Catherine was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Fred “Kiko” Garza and Francis (Lopez) Garza. She attended Edgewood High School and later married Santana S. Flores, Jr., with whom she had five children.

Throughout her lifetime, Catherine was a hardworking and dedicated woman who devoted herself to her family. Over the years, she worked for several businesses and organizations, beginning with the Flores family café and continuing with Niesners at Las Palmas, Lackland AFB Hospital, Woolco, Albertson’s, SeaWorld, Sears Department Store, and the Sears Call Center, where she remained until her retirement.

Catherine found joy in many simple pleasures. She enjoyed gardening, jigsaw and word puzzles, and acrylic painting, a hobby she discovered later in life at her senior community center. She also looked forward to her weekly trips to Family Thrift Outlet, where she enjoyed reminiscing and appreciated knowing that purchases helped support children’s organizations in the San Antonio area.

Time spent with family was especially precious to Catherine. She loved playing cards and board games, including Dominoes, Rummy, and her favorite, Scrabble. Her daily routine also included reading her Bible and watching her favorite television programs, including Jimmy Swaggart.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Steven Stroud, whom she married on December 16, 2021; her children, Virginia (Reynaldo) Perea, Jr., Victor Flores, Cynthia (George) Green, and Roger Flores; her grandchildren, Reynaldo (Jackie) Perea III, Brian Perea, Jezzicca Flores, Paige Flores, Annissa Flores, Halie Green, Alexa (Jordan) Mealing, J.R. Flores, and Abbie Flores; her five great-grandchildren, Nola Perez, Patrick Perez, Camille Perez, and Avianna Rosales; and her siblings, Beatrice G. (Robert) Escobedo, Alfredo Garza, Anita G. (Gilbert) Escobedo, Jane V. Garza, Raymond Garza, and Minnie G. Peterson, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Richard G. Flores; her parents, Fred “Kiko” Garza and Francis Lopez Cordero; her stepmother, Juanita Vallejo Garza; her sister, Frances Holstein; her step-siblings, Fred V. Garza and Louis V. Garza; and her nephew, Ronnie Escobedo.

As we say farewell to our mom, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on for generations to come. Her love, strength, hard work, and devotion to her family will remain with us, and her memory will forever be held deeply in our hearts and minds.

A Committal Service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi-Marian, 11624 Culebra Rd., San Antonio, TX 78253. The date and time are currently pending and will be announced when finalized.
