“Cathy”, as she was known by all, was born on June 3, 1955 in San Antonio, Texas to Lawrence and Mercedes Peña, as the youngest of 7 siblings. She lived a life marked by family and faith. A proud graduate of Providence High School, she dedicated 25 years of her life to her work as a telephone operator for AT&T, serving her customers with dedication and care. Cathy was deeply involved in her church and community, serving on the church council and as a lector for Sunday masses in her younger years at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. She also volunteered with the Fiesta Commission, where she embraced the spirit of the city’s celebration with joy and enthusiasm.
Cathy had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. She was an avid fan of the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Astros. She found comfort in watching her favorite television shows, The Golden Girls and Blue Bloods, spending time with her dogs, Penny and Coco, and enjoyed playing bingo and Scrabble with family.
Family was Cathy’s greatest treasure. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Dolores Peña, Anna Maria Lozano, Isabel Kern, Carlos Peña and Louis Peña. In addition to her daughter, Yvette, son-in-law, Gabriel and their son, Logan, she is survived by her brother, Lorenzo Pena; nieces, Elizabeth Martinez (Lisa), Priscilla Hubbard, Alice Peña (Holly); nephews, Roger Martinez, Peter Kern, David Kern, Richard Kern and Carlos Peña Jr., and numerous grand-nieces and nephews. Cathy’s sense of humor and spunk, her giving heart, and her unwavering strength will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, located at 2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232, and the Rosary will begin at 6:00 PM.
A funeral mass will be celebrated the following morning, Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, located at 3107 North St. Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78212. A graveside service and interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
