Please accept my condolences on the loss of Cathy. I was in pharmacy school with her and graduated with her in 1985. She was a kind and gentle person. I remember her struggle with diabetes. She did not let it stop her from pursuing her degree. I always admired her determination. I am very sorry to hear of her passing and will keep you in my prayers.

I did not know Cathy but what I know of the Grambling family she had to be very special.

I was very saddened today to read of Cathy's passing. It was privilege to be her case manager at RIOSA and later her Social Worker at Northwest Kidney Disease and the Stone Oak clinic. Cathy was inspirational in so many ways. She displayed courage, determination, loyalty, concern for others, and a fierce sense of independence. Cathy seemed to make the most of whatever life handed her. She was truly an amazing person. I wish there were some magical words I could share with you which would take away the pain you feel, but the truth is there aren't any. Healing takes time. But know that with time your tears and pain will lessen and you will remember the laughter and good times. Cathy will always be in your heart. It was an honor to know her. B. J. Smith

I had the pleasure of working with Cathy when St. Rose opened up. I was a Pharmacy Technician and could always go to Cathy with questions regarding to prescriptions. She was a very sweet person who never showed anyone dislike of any kind. I send my deepest sympathy's to her family, and especially her mother, Pat Gramling. To The Gramling Family, I was so sad to hear about Cathy's passing. We met in pharmacy school and shared an apartment during our last semester in pharmacy school. It was so nice having her as a friend. She always had wonderful advice and such a loving attitude towards everything and everyone. I remember once, I drove us to class in my beat up car which had a sun roof that leaked. It had rained the night before. When we sat down in the car, our bottoms were soaked and we went to school that way. I told her that I was so sorry but she never complained. She made a big joke about it and we laughed for days. I always felt so comfortable with her. Even back then, she struggled with her illness but never let it cripple her. She was one of the smartest pharmacists I've ever known. I had the honor of working with her at the Baptist Hospital. She was respected by everyone for her knowledge, her integrity, her dedication and respect for co workers. Cathy loved her family so much. You were everything to her. It saddens me that during these last few years I didn't keep in touch with her. I will keep you in my prayers. Love,

I remember Cathy as being such a sweet girl.......she had such a precious spirit. We became friends at Eisenhower Middle School in the 6th grade, she was one of my first friends when we moved to San Antonio. We graduated together at Churchill. I always remember how sweet and soft spoken she was.

I was a nurse at Methodist Hospital, CVOR. I cared for Ms. Gramling many times over a period of years. I was moved by her strength and sheer will power during her struggle with Diabetes. Her mother was an inspiration, as well. She was devoted to her daughter. I will pray for Catherine and her family.

Catherine and her mother have been an inspiration to me. I took care of her many times in the CVOR holding area at the Methodist Hosp. She was a very strong girl and fought as hard as I've ever seen. Catherine always had a positive attitude, when many would have given up. I'm sure she now finally has some peace. My thoughts and prayers are with her mother and family.

Dear Pat and Family, I found this in a book: Imitation of Christ this morning and thought Cathy had put it there for me to send to you. 
"Lift up your eyes to heaven. There am I, and with Me all my saints, who in this world fought a great fight. They now rejoice, are now comforted, are now secure, are now at rest. And so they shall abide with Me in the Kingdom of My Father for all eternity. "O most blessed mansion of the celestial city! O most bright day of eternity, never darkened by any night, but ever irradiated by the Sovereign Truth! O day always joyful, always secure, and never changing to darkness! That day has come for Cathy and all suffering has come to an end. That day shines, resplendent with everlasting brightness." When I was talking to Cathy in my prayers, I asked her to become friends with my daughter and my mother. Then I realized that she could see. I was so thrilled because of her desire to see her nephews and nieces and those people she loved that she had never seen before. If was with much sadness in my heart that I read of the passing of Cathy. Cathy was a friend of my daughter Tammy when they were at Churchill and she was in Tammy's wedding in 1988. I remember Cathy taking her insulin to football games. My heart goes out to you and your family at this time of your loss. It is hard for a parent to loose a child.....we lost Tammy in 2000......she left behind two precious boys. Just know that I share your deep loss and know what you are going thru. Cathy was a sweetheart......she fought a long hard battle and is at peace now.I try to remember the Serenity Prayer to help me get thru our loss.

Cathy, we celebrate your victory! 
Disease ravaged your body for thirty years, yet your spirit won in the end. 
Many of us would have succumbed to self-pity, anger, denial, even denial of God: "Where is His Mercy, His Love?" 
You found it and nurtured your spirit on it so that all who met you were greeted by one consumed by the Spirit. 
"How are you?", was your everlasting greeting. You found no time to complain. The other was always your concern. We are better for having shared that little spark of your life with us. Thank you, Cathy, for your example of "A Beautiful Soul".

Cathy has been a part of my life for a long time, and I will so miss her courage. From the first time I met her at Santa Rosa hospital my mouth numb from dental work and she thinking I was probably some very impaired doctor we have always had a caring relationship that I will miss. The last time I spoke to her was Thanksgiving Day - she called me from a nursing home - and as distraught as she was she still asked about all my family and how I was doing. I hope and pray she did not suffer physical pain, for she has had more than her share of emotional pain which she always bore with dignity and grace. Cathy was an inspiration to me, and her wisdom will live on in how I relate to patients like her. If I can ever be of help to the family, please know I am here.
