Cecile Danna Buckley was born on February 15, 1930, in Monroe, Louisiana, and she passed away in Spring Branch, Texas on December 29, 2021. She was a resident of San Antonio for 42 years. Cecile was an active member of St. Mark the Evangelistic Catholic Church serving in many ministries, in her church, in her neighborhood community, as well as a hands-on mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Cecile had a zest for life. She was very spiritual from the age of six and connected with anyone she met. Her love for God transcended into every facet of everything she was a part of. Her gift was spending time with the people she loved and building everlasting relationships. She spent hours outside gardening. Her therapy was getting lost daily in her garden. This was the place that she connected and was one with nature. Cecile was very involved in her neighborhood garden club. She was a Master Gardner as well as an avid visitor to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens where the beauty that surrounded her spoke peace and joy to her heart. Many lives were positively influenced through her leading Christian religion classes, jail ministry, spiritual direction, centering prayer, prayer chains and prayer groups.
Her husband, Frank of sixty-three years was the love of her life, as well as her six children, spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cecile had an active part in her children and her grandchildrens life. Cecile enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and games with family. She took the kids to feed the ducks, outings to the park, walks on the beach, playing in the water, and cooking and visiting in the kitchen. Her car was on autopilot for a visit anytime to see her family. Her grandchildren thought she owned the beach, the pool, and the zoo, which were all beautiful places she connected with the ones that she loved. Cecile had a way of lighting up any room with her presence, jokes, singing, dancing, performing, teaching, laughing, loving and smiling.
Cecile was an voracious reader who loved to learn. She was always available to listen, discuss, teach, and be taught. She would spend hours in the backyard of her family home on "therapy hill", the place where just about every family occasion started and ended. She would sit on the swing with her family and friends and be supportive through listening, praying, and reflecting.
Survivors include her six children who she loved very much, Elizabeth Buckley, Angelyn Larimer (Gregg), Mary Ann Avignon (Gary), Alison Bell (David), Susan Thorpe (Damon), and daughter-in-law Terry Buckley.
