Born on August 19, 1935 to Edwin Tatsch and Olga Tatsch née Enderlin in Fredericksburg, Texas where she was raised and attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. She helped her parents in their many family businesses before she met and married the love of her life Vernon Petsch, after which, her life would be an endless adventure.
Charleen left the comfort of her hometown and “safe life” as a brand new, young and eager bride followed Vernon to San Antonio where he worked at Pearl Brewery. Then after a short time in a rental property, they built a house and Charleen proceeded to build a loving home, where after cable tv you could usually find any baseball game on. Shortly thereafter Charleen would battle and beat Cancer several times leaving her unable to bear children. This was an extremely resilient woman. When I asked her how she could just continue enduring the uncertainty and discomfort, she said “well, Faith, and I just put one foot in front of the other.” With the help of their strong Catholic faith and a Catholic adoption agency they became the proud parents of their son Thomas Dale. She was a devoted wife and doting mother doing all things for Thomas at any and all school functions and traveled with him and Vernon to any and all baseball games that they could attend in which their nephew Roger Metzger played in. She was a diehard Astros Fan and loved the game of baseball. When she became an “Oma” she did the same for her two grandsons, Joshua and Wyatt. Nothing made her smile more than being a devoted wife, mother and Oma to her four boys. You could not ask for a better cheerleader, fan and supporter to have in your corner.
She and her husband were founding members of St Thomas More Catholic Church in San Antonio. Her Catholic faith brought her joy and comfort throughout her entire life.
A special thank you to all the staff at Knopp Assisted Living, Ave Marie Hospice and her sister Marilyn for their love and care for her during her time of need. God put her in great hands until he called her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Vernon Anton Petsch, her parents Edwin Tatsch and Olga Enderlin Tatsch and Stepmother Cornelia “Nellie” Tatsch. Her brother Billie Tatsch, her sister and brother in law Annette and Jack Whittington. Her sisters in law and their husbands, Edgar and Paula Hahn and Bruno and Evelyn Metzger.
She is survived by her son Thomas and his wife Sherry, her grandsons Joshua Edwin and James Wyatt Petsch. Her sisters Cherie Kidd and Marilyn Tatsch. Along with many nieces and nephews,
She had an amazing extended family and numerous friends.
