

Charles E. Brown, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 13, 2016 in San Antonio, TX. Charlie was born on July 31, 1932 in Kerrville, TX to Clarence "Buster" Brown and Myrtle Babineaux Brown. He graduated in 1950 from Tivy High School in Kerrville, TX. In 1954 he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where he met his wife Carolyn Wease. They were married on June 26, 1954 in Del Rio, TX. Charlie then received his Masters of Education from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX in 1959. Charlie's career in education continued for more than 40 years. He has held positions at Northside ISD as an Associate Superintendent, Principal at Holmes High School, and Vice Principal at Marshall High School. He also worked with the San Antonio ISD as Vice Principal at Edison High School and was a Coach for Edison, Brackenridge, Cooper Jr., and Hawthorne Jr. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a Special Agent-C.I.C. Charlie was a part of many educational associations and earned several honors to include Director General- UIL Region IV(1984-2015), Texas Outstanding Principal of the Year in 1981, and The Dallas Morning News' Athletic Achievement Award for All-State AA Football Squad in 1949. Charlie was recently inducted into The Tivy Athletic Hall of Fame. One of his proudest career accomplishments included publishing the first "Crisis Management Handbook" for the Northside ISD, which was later shared with all Bexar County school districts. He developed other publications for Northside ISD to include "Texas Region IV UIL Handbook" and "The Student/Parent Handbook". Charlie was a Life Member of the Davy Crockett Masonic Lodge #1225 and served as Worshipful Master from 1973 - 1974. In 1975 - 1976, he served as District Deputy Grand Master for the Grand Lodge of Texas. Charlie also was a Scottish Rite Mason, Alzafar Shriner, President of the Morning Optimist Club, and Board Member of the Trinity University National Alumni Association.
Charlie is survived by his wife Carolyn Brown; his son Mike Brown and son Doug Brown and wife Julie; daughter in law Peggy Brown; grandchildren, Mason Brown, Brady Brown, Jennifer and husband Todd Hoopman, Jake and wife Courtney Brown, Amanda and husband Jeff Schiefelbein; great grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Lorelei and Emilia Schiefelbein, and Rachel and Kate Hoopman.
The family invites friends to a Memorial Service held in Charlie's honor at Aggie Park located at 6205 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78213 on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 3:00 pm. A private burial service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
