Charles Joseph Bufalino Jr., age 82, passed away on October 11, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to Rose and Charles Joseph Bufalino Sr. on December 11, 1938. His mother and father arrived on a boat from Italy to Ellis Island in search of a better life. Charles was the first generation born in America. His mother although loving was taken from him at 5yrs of age. His father was a hardworking man and a devout Roman Catholic. Without the love of his life in a new land his father supported and raised Charles until he was taken from him at the age of 13 due to black lung from working in the coal mines. After the death of his father, Charles was cared for by his sister and at this impressionable age, he was taken under the wing of one of Pittston Pennsylvanias most notorious and ruthless mob bosses; his great uncle Russell Bufalino. Charles saw many things growing up exposed to the mob life and when given the opportunity to serve the "Family" he told Russell, "I want to serve my country." At that point Charles joined the Air Force and was eventually part of the First Cavalry attached to the Army in Vietnam. He served his country for over 5 decades in the Armed Forces and Civil Service, retiring as a Senior Master Sargent and then going on to retire as a GS 12 in Cryptologic Support.
Charles or as his friends called him Buff, met the love of his life; Carol Sue Bufalino in Myrtle Beach South Carolina while they were just young kids. Charles and his friends were in a convertible car combing the beach and saw a group of girls that caught their eye. Sues friends ended up jumping into the car with the handsome boys and when her friends said, "Come on Sue!" she replied no, Im going to stay here. Her friends although disappointed were loyal and jumped out of the car to stay with her. At that point Sue jumped into the car next to Buff and so began a romance and love affair that lasted for 64 years.
Buff and Sue traveled the world with the Military and had three children along that journey; Christopher Joseph Bufalino, Charles Anthony Bufalino and the unexpected Michael Todd Bufalino. They finally settled in San Antonio, Texas in 1979. Buff was an unwavering Christian and served as a deacon in his church, an avid and masterful racquetball player, a serious health nut, a wonderful father, loving and generous grandfather and a devoted husband.
Charles Joseph Bufalino Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Charles Joseph Bufalino, Sr. He is survived by Wife Carol Sue Bufalino, Sons Christoper Joseph, Charles Anthony and Michael Todd along with 4 grandchildren and many loving friends.
