He was preceded in death by his parents, Fannie Owen and Robert Chaplin; sister Fanny Rawles and brothers, Robert R. Chaplin, William Chaplin and John Thomas Chaplin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 63 years, Ethel; daughter Jacqueline; two sisters, Elizabeth Cook of Emporia, VA and Mary Ann Lohr of Wilmington, DE and one brother, Edward R. Chaplin and wife Julia of Summerville, SC.
He leaves numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, in particular Dr. Robert R. Chaplin, Jr. and wife Judy of Richmond, VA. Three "grandchildren", Katy Andre of Austin, William M. Harris, IV of Lubbock, and Lincoln Harris of Austin were dear to his heart. He was a veteran of WWII and Vietnam with 32 years in the U.S. Army followed by employment at USAA.
