

Charles (Flip) T. Flippin passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the age of 93. He was born on March 11, 1924, in Sedalia, Missouri. He enlisted in the military in 1943 and was sent to fight in Europe during World War II in 1944, as an infantryman for the 324th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division. Marching across France, he was wounded in late 1944. After his recovery he continued to march into Germany and finally ended up in Austria where he stayed until after the war ended in May 1945. He received, “The Purple Heart,” the Distinguished, “Silver Cross,” and other meritorious medals for his service during World War II. He later participated in the Korean War and went back in 1958, where he helped improve the Republic of Korean Military Printing Plant, at the same time volunteering at a Korean Orphanage. In the early 1960’s he was assigned to the Rifle Team at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and his team came in first place. In 1965 he was assigned to the 4TH US Army Advanced Marksmanship Detachment at Ft Sam Houston, Texas. Here he became the NCO in charge and Senior Instructor Shooter Coach for the Rifle Team. He retired from military service in 1967. He then entered civil service at Ft Sam Houston, Texas, as a printer pressman for another twenty years. He finally retired in 1987 after 40 years of service to his country.
Charles and wife Ethel joined the Bexar Ramblers Traveling RV Club. They traveled throughout the United States until 2005. Charles was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a patient and loving father. He loved being around his grandkids and enjoyed playing a game of poker with them. He was a member of the VFW 8541 and the American Legion Post 10 both in San Antonio, Texas.
He was blessed with a loving son-in-law, Jack, and the wonderful staff at Shavano Park Assisted Living and Brookdale Hospice toward the end of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Velma Flippin, brother, Bud Flippin and his loving wife of sixty two years, Ethel Flippin. He will be missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his two daughters and family, Kathie and Jack Masten, and Donna Suther both of San Antonio, Texas, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, two sisters Velma Stewart and Mary Jean Cook.
The, “Till We Meet Again,” service will be held Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10 AM at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas, 78218.
