Master Sergeant Charles R. Frey, USMC (Ret), passed away on Saturday October 15, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 79. He was born on October 9, 1932 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Morton and Evelyn (Biller) Frey. He was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam, retiring from the United States Marine Corps after 21 years of service. Charlie was the Past Master and Life Member of Masonic Lodge #1373, a life member of the Marine Corps League, a member of VFW Post # 837 and a member of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. After retiring from the military, he was a veteran’s counselor at St. Phillips College and San Antonio College.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nicola L. Frey; children Vicki Hickman, Michelle Gutt, LTC Michael Frey, MD, USA; grandchildren, Laine Bradford, Lynley Bibbee, Kristina Frey, Michael Frey, Kassandra Frey, Brandon Gutt, Jordan Gutt, Megan Gutt and great-grandchildren Victoria Bradford, Kainan Bradford, Sophia Bibbee, Bruce M. Frey; brother Bill Frey; sister Patsy Meeks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the Trisagion at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. The family is asking that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in lieu of flowers.
