Charles Payson Hakes, born on January 15, 1929 in Brownsville, Texas, rejoined his father, Lynn Martin Hakes, Sr., and mother, Daisy Ruth Brainerd on Sunday, September 29, 2002. Charlie was a WWII Veteran, a Lieutenant with the Brownsville Police Department, a Sergeant with the Texas Highway Patrol, and Manager of Chambers of Commerce, and retired from US Customs on August 31, 1990. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Barrett Hakes; daughters, Lindy of Dallas, and Cindy O'Brien and husband Robert; grandchildren, Robert and Kelly O'Brien, all of Corpus Christi; brother, Lynn Martin and wife Dorothy of Brownsville; nephew, Charles, his wife Lynn and family; niece, Beckey Lipe and husband John; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Barrett of Dallas.
