

Charles Marshall Huey, a true gentleman, passed away on December 12, 2007 at the age of 94. He was born into a pioneer family as his grandparents came west from Chicago in 1889 to settle in what was then Indian Territory and later would become the state of Oklahoma.
Born on May 5, 1913, in Oklahoma City, he made his residence in San Antonio in 1942 following his military transfer from Washington D.C. to Fort Sam Houston. Prior to his military service he sold advertising for The Daily Oklahoman newspaper and later became public relations and advertising director for Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company.
In 1938 after successfully managing the political campaign of Congressman and future Senator Mike Monroney of Oklahoma, he accompanied him to Washington as his Executive Assistant.
Soon after he started practice as a corporate attorney, his reserve commission was activated and he was attached to the Office of Assistant Chief of Staff G2, War Department General Staff. He later was transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Headquarters, 8th Corp Area, as Chief of the Counterintelligence Investigations Division. In 1945, he was relieved from active service with the rank of Colonel.
He was a graduate of The University of Wisconsin and The University of Oklahoma College of Law. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, his collegiate fraternity. He practiced law and was engaged in business for over 50 years.
He was the Conoco Oil Company's wholesale distributor in San Antonio in the 1950's and was also an independent oil operator in Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. He also served on several committees for the regional American Petroleum Institute. In the 1960's he owned The Huey Company, a transcontinental truck leasing operation specializing in long haul equipment.
For 30 years he was a principal shareholder of Lone Star Brewing Company and at various times owned Lone Star distributorships in San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Ft. Worth and Aransas Pass. In the 1980's he was appointed by the U.S Bankruptcy Court as Trustee for two major oil companies in bankruptcy. In his earlier years he was active in community and civic affairs in San Antonio.
He served on committees or boards for the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; The Community Chest, forerunner of United Way; The American Red Cross, Alamo Council Boy Scouts of America; and The San Antonio Little Theater. He was formerly a member of the Rotary Club of San Antonio and several social clubs including the San Antonio Country Club and The Argyle.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jayne Elizabeth.
He is survived by his son, Charles M. Huey, Jr. and wife Cynthia of San Antonio; a daughter, Adele Sweeney and husband, Thomas, of Del Mar, California; a daughter, Anita Galgan of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and granddaughters, Elizabeth Grace Huey, Frances Jayne Galgan and Kathleen Blaine Clementson; and grandsons, James Marshall Sweeney and Brandon McKim Clementson. The family wishes to sincerely thank Maria Garza, his caregiver and friend of many years.
