Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Karen; daughter, Dawn; son, Charlie and daughter in-law Grace; cherished grandchildren, Nora, Dominick, and Emma; sisters, Dolores and Linda; brother, Robert; and numerous nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Maria Hughes; sister, Yolanda; and aunt, Theresa.
Charles was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose life revolved around his family. He was a kind, quiet, and strong man, always ready to offer love, support, and a helping hand. No matter what his children needed, Charles was always there, offering his support and love without hesitation. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved spending time with them, whether it was chasing grasshoppers, painting, or coloring together.
A lover of the outdoors, Charles found great joy in spending time in his yard, feeding the birds, and caring for his animals, whom he spoiled with love. He also found immense happiness in family gatherings, where he could share laughter, stories, and make memories with his loved ones. Charles had a passion for traveling, and he cherished camping trips, cruises, and beach visits, always eager to explore new places.
Beyond his immediate family, Charles was an active and engaged member of his community. He spent much of his life volunteering and serving various organizations. For more than 20 years, Charles brought holiday cheer to the community by donning the role of Santa Claus, spreading joy and creating lasting memories for children and families each Christmas. His commitment to others reflected his generous nature, and his presence in the community will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., followed by a rosary at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E., San Antonio, Texas.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church – Honey Creek, 25781 TX-46, Spring Branch, Texas. A reception at the church will follow.
Charles’s family was the heart of his world, and his love for them will live on in the memories they cherish. He will be deeply missed but forever loved and remembered.
