He was a World War II veteran wounded in action, South Pacific, 1944. He was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a retired minister.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cathryn. M. Johnson, son, Charles F. Johnson, Jr. He is survived by daughter, Phyllis Kitchens; son-in-law, Arvell Kitchens; numerous grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
