CHARLES JOSEPH KUNETKA passed peacefully from this life on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the age of 107, just four weeks shy of his 108th birthday. Charlie was born on July 17, 1910, in Wallis, Texas, to Joseph and Marie Novosad Kunetka. He attended high school in Jourdanton, TX, and moved to San Antonio to attend Draughn’s Business College majoring in bookkeeping and banking. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and later managed post exchanges at Lackland and Kelly Air Force Bases. He retired as warehouse manager from the M. J. Harwood Wholesale Jewelers in 1973. Charlie was a 76-year member of Masonic Triune Lodge 15 in San Antonio and a 77-year member of SPJST Lodge 161 in La Parita, TX. Charlie was a gentle and peaceful man who lived a full, happy, active life and was greatly loved by all that knew him.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Kunetka, his first wife of 50 years, Mildred Lacey Kunetka, and his second wife, Minnie Martinez, his son-in-laws: Charles Cummings, Dan Elliott and Dave Hansmire, and his grandson, Gary Rosenthal. He is survived by his daughters, Charlene Cummings, and Sue Hansmire of San Antonio, TX, and Judy Elliott of Austin, TX, and his 8 grandchildren: Dana Cummings Bechtel (Trip), Robert Rosenthal, James Cummings, Michael Cummings, Scott Cummings, Amy Peevey Goodwin (Chad), Lauren Hansmire Martin (Carl), and Matthew Hansmire and step-grandson Charles Cummings (Michelle). He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren: Ashley Cummings, Damien Brom, Lacey Bechtel, Andrew J. Cummings, Taylor Bechtel, Zachary Brom and Eleanor Martin. Charlie is also survived by many loving nieces, several nephews, and his dogs Kirby and Ralphie.
A Visitation will be held at 9:00 am with a Chapel Service to begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, Texas.
