
Charles H. Mize, age 70, entered into rest December 4, 2001. He was born May 24, 1931 in Boerne, TX to Tom and Estelle Mize. Charles served in the Navy and was a star baseball and basketball player in high school at Sam Houston in San Antonio. Charles was retired from Roddis Lumber and Veneer. He was well respected by the construction industry in south Texas. He previously worked at Prassel Manufacturing Co. Charles was very outgoing and always had his family involved with many activities. He was a high average bowler and long active in the affairs of the SA Bowling Association. He served as Vice President and President of the San Antonio Bowling Association from 1962-1965 and also formed the first Junior Bowling Chapter locally in 1964. He was an avid outdoorsman hunting at the same lease from 1958 to 1988. There was never a year where hunting and fishing were not in his plans for the family. In his later years, he trained himself and took courses at Texas A&M and became known as the "Pecan Man" in the south Texas area. He had a pecan orchard at his house and answered all calls from people needing to know anything about pecan growing. He was an active member in the Texas Pecan Growers Association and the SA Master Gardener's as an expert on pecans. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Thorner and nurse Eliose along with home health nurses Teddy and Dean for their special care. Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father; sister Mary Petrash; and brother Eugene Mize. Charles Mize is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Mize; sons, Charles E. Mize and wife Jeanette, with children Chris Horsley, Tyson Horsley, Karee Mize and Alysa Mize; Darrel R. Mize and wife Belynda with son Lance Mize; Allen L. Mize and wife Julie with daughters Madelynn and Laurynn; sister, Stella Morgan and husband James; brother-in-laws, Ed Petrash, B.F. Hierholzer, Marlin Hierholzer, and Melvin Hierholzer; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.
