

Charles Pena, a beloved figure in the San Antonio community, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on May 31, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ponciano Pena and Juanita Bueno, Charles lived a remarkable life filled with service, camaraderie, and a passion for golf.
After graduating from Harlandale High School in 1944, Charles answered the call of duty and enlisted in the Navy before his 18th birthday at the angst of his mother and joined the armed forces during World War II, serving his country until 1946. His bravery and dedication during this time exemplified his commitment to service.
Following his military service, Charles immersed himself in the world of golf. He played a vital role in both the Pan American Golf Association and the Alamo City Golf Association from 1960 through the 1990s, leaving an indelible mark on the sport in the region.
In addition to his contributions to golf, Charles dedicated nearly five decades of his life to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), starting in 1950 and retiring in 1998. His work with the FAA took him across the United States, where he played an integral role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of numerous airports.
Despite his professional achievements, Charles cherished the simple joys of life, finding solace in the company of his many friends and his beloved partner, Belle. Charles Pena will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey. May his memory continue to inspire and uplift those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Arturo Pena and Carlos Pena II; brother Joe P. Pena; and half-brother, Tony Aguillar. Charles is survived by his sons, Robert Pena (Christi), John Pena and daughter Stella Gamez. He is also survived by his sister Santa Caylor (Dean Caylor); long time partner, Isabel Espinoza; Sister-in-Law Cindy Aguilar, and Sister-in-Law Georgia Pena; and many Great Grand Children, Grand Children, Nieces, Nephews.
