Met Chuck "Captain",in 1971, U.S.Coast Guard Training Station,Yorktown, Virginia. Both undergoing Officers Training. Led to Direct Commissioning and latter both made Full Commanders. He left SAPD and engaged in Accident Reconstruction and established a Private Security Company, joined by Albert "Zeke" Zelasky, also SAPD, and a Chief Warrant Officer in the Coast Guard. After retiring from Federal Law Enforcement, I joined you and Zeke, working in both factions. Your encouragement caused me to pursue onward so after my own Security Company, I also joined SAPD. You were alway the "sharpest pencil in the box" with an unmatchable wit and philosphy on just about everything. If you didn't have the right answer, you handled it so well that no one knew the difference. You will be sorely missed by all who you have ever come in contact, especially Little Chuck, Carolyn, Pat, and the rest of your Clan. You were like a Father to me and I will miss our chance meetings at Fort Sam. Godspeed old friend, and be sure to save a bunk for me like before, (topside).

As a young guy in Coast Guard, I remember that when CDR Ruble spoke to an audience he would keep the attention of everyone. Also, he kept his camera handy to get picture evidence of anything.

We never missed So You wanna be a Cop when we were growing up. I will never forget the radio program. My condolences to the family and to this very creative man.

Prayers for Captain Ruble and his family.I practicaly grew up in the basement of SAPD. My dad worked in training and I was fortunate enough to see Captain Ruble a year ago at my Dads funeral. Rest in Peace

Captain Ruble and my Dad, J.L. Peterson, worked together for many years at the S.A.P.D. (when it was in the basement).  He was a wonderful man, officer and leader. May he rest in peace with our Lord.

Dear Pat, Chuck and Family,
So sad to hear of your Dad's passing. We have such fond memories of your parents. I loved his vast knowledge of accident reconstruction. He was so smart and had such great sense of humor. God Bless you and I know the great memories of hime will live with you forever.

We were sadden to learn of the passing of Captain Ruble. He will be missed by his family members and his many friends  who were fortunate to know this fine gentleman. He will be missed and always remembered.

It was an honor serving under the command of Captain Ruble in the Coast Guard. He was truly a great man and officer .

Well it's been 57 years since Officer Ruble taught me at one of the first Driver's Ed Courses ever taught down at the old SAPD Police Station.  The family always waited for the Saturday evening "So you wanna be a Cop" Radio Show.  Great life, Chuck. Rest in Peace.

So sorry to hear of your loss.  My mother, Sgt Martha B. Schnabel of the San Antonio Police Department, the first woman to go through the police academy, was proud to serve with Captain Ruble in the Training Bureau of the SAPD.  She always had nothing but the strongest praise for Captain Ruble, and he is actually the one who began to call her "Officer Mamma," and hence the title of her book that she wrote about her police career.  He was indeed a great mind and will be sorely missed.

I did not know Chuck Ruble personally, having only met him a few times. However, Ray knew him, worked for him in training and both liked and respected him. I send my sympathy to the family.
