

Charles H. “Captain” Ruble has passed away at the age of 90 years on December 24, 2013. He was born on the 26th of November 1923. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willo Kelly Ruble and Charles Culberson Ruble; stepmother Bonita F. Ruble; and his loving wife of 70 years Margie Springer Ruble. Capt. Ruble is survived by his son Charles Ruble(Carolyn); daughter Patricia Ruble-Eggleston (Stephen); sister JoAnn Ruble-Miller; grandchildren Chris Ruble(Stephanie), Noelle Bragg(Mike), Justin Kobold, and Alicia Eggleston; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Capt. Ruble was a graduate of Trinity University and St. Mary’s University Law School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, later joining the U.S. Coastguard Reserve and achieving the rank of Commander. Captain joined the San Antonio Police Department in 1950 and originated the radio show “So you want to be a cop?” He was one of the first officers to earn a college degree and the first to earn a law degree. He began the first formal police training academy and served as legal officer and chief instructor at the academy until his retirement. Afterwards he practiced law and served as an accident reconstruction consultant until 1996.

Visitation will take place from 6-9:00p.m on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, TX 78218. A graveside service with military honors will take place at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach San Antonio, TX 78209.
