Charlie is already missed by us. Charlie and Ruth have always treated us as family and we consider ourselves an extended part of the Spain family.  We loved spending time with Charlie, whether it was golfing, fishing, or just hanging around.  When Bettina and I first moved to Texas he instantly made Bettina and Nicole feel like family, just like he did me in when I first met him in 1981.  Charlie was one of the nicest people that you could ever meet and we feel honored that we were a part of his life.

I worked with Charlie at USAA and worshiped with him at Randolph AFB Chapel...I very much enjoyed his friendship...he was the best...

My deepest condolences and prayers to the Spain family. I knew Charlie while working at USAA since 1983. He was my mentor in the IT department and a very special person in everybody's heart. He always had a smile and a warm hello for everybody. May he rest in peace and with our Lord.

Someone told me that you only have 1 dad and 1 mom. I believe when you have the best friends that I have (Doug&Ed) You have 3. I'm  sad that I will not be there to say my good bye  to Mr Spain.  Mrs Spain  my thoughts and prayers are with you always. I will pause on Friday and shed some tears of sadness and joy for I know Mr Spain is at peace. Doug ,my brother I love you and always be there for you. God bless all of the Spain family.

Condolences to family and friends of CMSgt (USAF, Ret) Charles Spain. We knew each other in the Air Force, the Base Chapel, where he ushered, and we seemed to run into each other often at the BX, golf course, commissary, etc. We were also good neighbors in Coronado Village for many years. Rest in peace, friend Charlie.

First I extend my sympathy to the Spain family on Charlie's passing.  Charlie and I shared three careers together--in the Air Force, USAA, & the Retama Racetrack.  Charlie was a good guy, great sense of humor, hard working, and we never passed one another without engaging in friendly comments.  I consider myself privileged to count him on my list of friends.  May the Good Lord watch over the Spain family.

Hard to believe it was 48 years ago I had the honor or re-enlisting Charlie Spain at Hq TAC. What an icon of an Air Force NCO, husband, father, and friend!!
