He is survived by his wife, Mae Bess, his two sons Jeffrey and Stephen, his grandchildren Megan, Caroline, Bryan, Anna and Nathan, and his sister Bettie.
Charlie was born on July 9, 1933 in Post, Texas to B.E. and Callie Sanders. He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1949 where he was a captain on the 1949 Texas state championship football team. He earned his engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954. After college and the military, he married Mae Bess and spent 62 happy years together raising a family. He made his life’s work the management of earthmoving equipment for several construction companies, both domestic and international, including H.B. Zachry. He was an active member of churches wherever he lived and lately served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of San Antonio.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, June 2, at 10 o’clock in the morning at Sunset Memorial Park. There will be an hour of visitation for family and friends beginning at 9 o’clock that morning. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlie’s life. The family would like to thank the staff at Sonterra Health Center and Ms. Lydia Porter for their dedicated efforts in caring for Charlie.
