After graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School, she attended Stephens College in Missouri for one year, transferring to the University of Texas to be with her future husband, Thomas Hogan.
She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and always a beautiful woman, both inwardly and outwardly, she was chosen to be a Bluebonnet Belle at the University.
Charlotte was a member of the San Antonio Country Club, the Argyle, the Club Giraud, the Green Hand Garden Club, the Alamo Heights-Terrell Hills Garden Club, the San Antonio Rose Society, Timely Topics Club, the Battle of Flowers Association and during her Junior League years, she especially loved her volunteer work with the Metropolitan Opera auditions.
She was also an officer in the Charity Ball Association.
In 1979, she served as Mistress of the Robes for the Coronation of the Queen of Fiesta of the Court of the Floating Kingdom, using her knowledge of Japan from a year spent overseas with her husband and children to assemble the designs for the coronation robes.
Charlotte was, above all, an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, serving as chairman of the Lenten Luncheons, a member of the Altar Guild, involved in several Bible studies and worked at the SAMM Shelter where she would bring her roses from her well-known and well-loved rose garden.
Because of her graciousness and her hospitable and generous nature, Charlotte was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was very appreciative of all the beauty in this world and made the most of her talent in art and decorating in her home and garden ~ sharing this love with her family and friends through entertaining at home and through gifts of large bouquets of roses personally delivered to friends.
Charlotte is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Francis Hogan, Jr.; her father, Raymond Palmer Whitfield and mother, Mary Bennett Roos Whitfield.
