Charlotte L. Williams entered into the nearer presence of our Lord in heaven on November 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, devotion, and immeasurable love. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Charlotte distinguished herself early in life through academic excellence, graduating early from high school before pursuing studies at both the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and the Peabody Music Institute. It was during her time at Peabody that she met organ student Bruce Williams, who became her husband and The Reverend Dr. Bruce M. Williams (Chaplain, LTC) during their life together.
Charlotte and Bruce married in 1955, beginning a partnership marked by service, ministry, and adventure. After their marriage, Bruce attended seminary in New York and was later commissioned into the United States Army, where he served as a Chaplain for 25 years. Their children, Donald Stephen (d. 1975) and Carol Elizabeth (now Copeland), were born in New York before the family embarked on years of military assignments and worldwide travel. Together, they lived in Massachusetts, New Mexico, Arizona, New York, Germany, and Virginia, ultimately settling in Texas to be closer to Carol and family. They continued their travels across the United States, Asia, and Europe following Bruce’s retirement.
A woman of many talents, Charlotte was a trained vocal musician, healthcare provider, nurse educator, Master Gardener, and dedicated volunteer. She was active in church choirs and altar guilds, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross. She served faithfully in countless roles - as a Chaplain’s wife, Girl Scout leader, treasurer for numerous organizations, Floral Display Judge at state fairs, Bible study contributor and leader, and gracious hostess. Whether setting a table for four or for twenty, Charlotte offered warmth and welcome to single soldiers, West Point cadets, college students, and friends across the globe.
Charlotte’s lively curiosity and love of conversation enriched every life she touched. She delighted in discussing topics ranging from ancient history to her beloved San Antonio Spurs. Yet her greatest joy came from her family. Known affectionately as “Oma” to her grandchildren and great-grandchild, Charlotte poured her heart into preserving their heritage, leaving behind extensive genealogical research, treasured family stories, archival collections from the Revolutionary and Civil War eras, and a legacy of boundless love.
Since 2012, Charlotte made her home at Franklin Park Sonterra, where she formed deep friendships and embraced her community with the same warmth she offered throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Charlotte’s life was a testament to faith, service, hospitality, and family - a beautiful journey that will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Carol Williams Copeland and her husband, Leonard; grandchildren, Melissa and Spencer Copeland, with his wife Shealynn Vogan Copeland, and great grandson Liam.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at St. George Episcopal Church, located at 6904 West Ave, San Antonio, TX 78213.
