Cheryl Rena Rogers, 74, of San Antonio, passed away & went home to be with her Savior early on the morning of July 30, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, after a very short battle with lung cancer. Cheryl was born on May 23, 1947, to Boaz (BB) & Lois Hawkins in Montgomery, AL. In her late teens, Cheryl moved to Los Angeles with her younger sister Jenny. She joined the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and was cast in a handful of films. After several years of living in California, she moved back to Alabama.
In the mid 70’s she met and wed Robert “Bob” Rogers and soon moved to Indiana to live with him. After several years there, they moved back to Montgomery and started their family; having 2 sons, Robert “Lane” and Zachary.
Chery spent many years as a stay-at-home mom with her boys, who have always been the most important things to her. Her “treasures,” as she referred to them. After she and Bob parted ways in 1994, she found a passion working in hospital administration; where she formed many lasting friendships and got to spend a lot of time with babies... she loved babies!
In 2002, Cheryl and her son Zach; moved to San Antonio to be close to her eldest son, Lane & his wife, Patricia. She always wanted both of her boys to be close by. She was very dedicated and always fought hard for them and did everything she could to make sure they were taken care of, provided for, nurtured, protected, and loved. She always found a way. In December 2020, she was blessed with her first Grandchild, Riley, daughter of Lane & Patricia. She was over the moon! She immediately extended this same unconditional love and attention to Riley.
Cheryl has often been referred to as “the mother to all” by many people in her life. She was generous and caring. She always shared her advice and was there for many people as they needed help and guidance in life. She was also very strong willed and opinionated. She wouldn’t put up with people who infringed on her friends or family. She kept a close inner circle of friends and family... She was very friendly, loved having conversations with anyone and everyone. She will be missed by many.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Boaz B. Hawkins; mother, Lois G. Hawkins, and sister, Carleen Guthrie. She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Robert “Lane” Rogers and Patricia Zars, Zach Rogers and Halo Rogers; her sisters, Josephine Moody and Jennifer Zurita; and her grandchild, Riley Rogers.
The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Flowers can be sent directly to the funeral home.
