

A long-time resident of San Antonio, Coach Byler taught and coached at Bradley and Ed White Middle Schools and MacArthur and Reagan High Schools. He also taught and coached at West High School in Anchorage, Alaska from 1982-1986. He retired from NEISD in 2006.
Coach Byler lived what he taught - discipline, integrity, pride in oneself, commitment to helping others, with a generous dose of laughter and humor along the way. His passions were family, students, golf, writing, and the outdoors. Byler was born in Houston, February 14, 1952.
He graduated from Coronado High School, Lubbock, TX. After serving in the Air Force from 1972-1976, he graduated from Dallas Baptist College in 1978.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Celia Perez Byler; daughter, Kelly Byler Singer and husband Mark; grandchildren, Noah, Hannah, and Micah Singer of Virginia Beach, Virginia; granddaughter, Kimber Hardwick of San Marcos; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ron Garland of Georgetown; brother, Brad Gray of Nashville, TN; brother-in-law, Ruben Perez and his wife Alicia of Columbus; nephews, Walter Granberry, Ruben Perez, Jr., and Stephen Perez; nieces, Kristen Hosaka, Valerie Spaulding, and Gabriela Perez; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive Family and Friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2014, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
