Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolf and Aloisia Poppe; her sister Anna Rossl; brother Frederick (‘Freddie”) Poppe; and husband Jimmie (“Jim”) Goforth.
She was married to Jim for more than 50 years and had three children: William (“Bill”) Goforth and wife Lisa, Caroline (“Carol”) Laurence and husband Lynn, and Patricia (“Trish”) Goforth and husband David Gamerman.
She also leaves behind two grandchildren: Stephanie Cooke and husband Aaron, Nicholas Goforth and wife Emily and five great grandchildren: Liam Cooke, Asher Cooke, James Goforth, Noah Goforth and Andrew Goforth.
Christine was born in Czechoslovakia and her family moved to Germany during World War II. She met Jim while he was serving as a soldier in the Army and came to the United States. She supported him for 13 years in the military. After William and Carol left home she went to work at Fort Sam Independent School District working in the school cafeteria. She was an amazing cook and baker so it was a perfect fit. She made many great friends there and became close to many students, one of which became a famous basketball star named Shaquille O’Neal.
As a mother she was revered in part for her cooking/baking. There was no shortage of freshly baked cookies, cakes or pies in the kitchen though they rarely lasted very long. She was skilled in crochet and needlepoint. Much of her work remains in her home displayed proudly as framed works of art on her walls. She loved board games, played Tetris on her Gameboy and loved puzzles until her eyesight became a problem. She looked forward to phone calls from her children every day to discuss politics. Christine was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. On her 86th birthday, she was able to attend a Cowboys game, even sitting in a Box Seat. She loved texting her son, grandson and son-in-law discussing good/bad plays, and lamenting losses and celebrating wins of her beloved Cowboys. She waited for football season all year long.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. We thank everyone for their kind wishes and support during this time and hope that memories of her will bring comfort and joy to all those that knew her.
