

He was an amazing son for Leisa and Jimmie. His presence will be deeply missed. Chris was a loving and caring son who showed compassion and generosity at every turn. He was truly a light of love in both parents hearts. Family, friends, and acquaintances all loved Chris, and their relationships were real and impactful; sharing laughter as well as lessons in life.
Chris graduated in 2000 from William Howard Taft High School, and attended classes at the University of Texas in San Antonio. Chris was so very full of promise, a talented musician and a devoted employee. His attention to detail was projecting Chris to a progressive career path that he enjoyed. Chris relished in the excitement that his music would bring; he said that music made him feel alive and at peace. He was incredible at working the crowd and making connections with everyone.
Chris loved his friends and held those relationships close to his heart. He really cherished those close bonds. He shared his faith and walk with God to anyone that would listen. Chris had a love and compassion for animals. He once climbed down into a 10 foot storm drain to rescue a small kitten.
Chris loved Chinese food, and his favorite dish was sesame chicken. Seafood was always a treat with cheese cake for dessert. He was a good eater for sure! Chris was an avid Spurs basketball fan & never missed a game. He was very excited about the success of the team this year. Chris will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Although his marriage did not stand the test of time, Ruby was, and will forever be the love of his life.
He is survived by his father Jimmie Bonewald & his mother Leisa Bonewald and her partner Louis Martinez; aunt Mina Smith (John) of Riverside, California; cousins Johnny Smith (Gaby) of Riverside, California; Shurii Smith of Riverside, California; Wendy Bonewald and Melissa Bonewald McFarlan, both of San Antonio; and numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his grandmother Virginia Sittre, grandfather Alton Bonewald, uncle John Bonewald, & aunt Carole Bonewald.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 9, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home Northwest. Family visitation is from 5-6 p.m. Friends and acquaintances are invited to come from 6-8 p.m.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at Sunset Funeral Home Northwest at 12:00 p.m.
Burial follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery (9944 Leslie Road).
