

Chrystella E. Hollenbeck, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 25, 2023. A beacon of resilience and grace, Chris, as she was known by friends and family, navigated the life of a military spouse with unwavering strength, supporting her husband through his distinguished career as an Air Force officer.
Born in San Antonio, Texas to Chrystella M. Wootton and Joe H. Bacon, Chris embraced the Air Force community with open arms, fostering deep connections and creating a home wherever duty called. Through countless relocations, deployments, and ceremonies, she stood steadfast, her spirit undeterred by the challenges presented.
Beyond her role as the backbone of her family, Chris was known for her charm, wit, sense of humor, and consummate care and concern for others. A loving mother, cherished friend, and devoted wife, Chris’ legacy will be remembered by the countless lives she touched, the stories she shared, and the love she freely gave.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Col Lauren B. “Sam” Hollenbeck, USAF (Ret.) She is survived by her two sons Joe and Scott, daughter-in-law Yong (Sookaa) Hollenbeck, daughter-in-law Elizabeth Diamond and granddaughter Hope Hollenbeck. Chris is remembered by a community of friends and family who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date when Chris and Sam will be reunited again.
