Clair was born on August 19, 1950, in San Antonio, to T.C. and Christine McKeen Applewhite. She grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from W.B. Ray High School and subsequently attended Texas A&I University. Clair graduated from the Laredo branch of Texas A&I with a B.S. in Math and English in 1972.
Clair taught middle school in Judson ISD of San Antonio for several years. She then worked at Harris Lanier in Austin. Beginning in 1989, Clair relocated to San Antonio and began a career in property management for Hendry Investments at their Vista del Rey apartment complex. From 2004 until she retired in 2015, she managed the 4001 Condominium property in San Antonio.
Clair was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Craig Applewhite, and her previous husband, Roy Michael Simmons. She is survived by her husband, John Hodges; sister, Carole Baggerly; daughters, Carrie Goode Lyons and Jennifer Goode Freid; and her eight grandchildren.
Clair was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a loyal friend. She was gifted in all aspects of her life…a brilliant cook, had a razor-sharp mind that was adept at solving any problem that came her way, and was a compassionate listener to family and friends. Her kind heart and vivacious spirit will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know her.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you keep her memory alive in your heart and smile when a memory of her crosses your mind.
