Claire Louise McGlothlin passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the age of 76. Claire was born on January 20, 1950, in St. Louis, Missouri where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1967 and received a partial bachelor’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University in 1968.
Shortly after graduation, in 1969, she married her first husband Terrence “Terry” Joseph Martin, Sr. Together they had 5 children, Tim, Joey, Terry Jr., Tom, and Cathy.
Terry, Sr. served in the US Air Force, and the family moved often. They lived in Missouri, Arkansas, South Carolina, and then eventually made their home in San Antonio, Texas.
When Terry, Sr. retired from the US Air Force, Claire was able to return to school and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1986. She furthered her education by earning her Master of Education from Texas Tech University in 1991.
In 1986, Claire began her teaching career with the Northeast Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas where she taught for 28 years. Throughout her teaching career she taught special education and was passionately dedicated to teaching children with visual impairments. She retired in 2014 but remained close to her cherished colleagues and dear friends and never lost her love for teaching.
In 2004, Claire married her second husband Michael “Mac” McGlothlin, and they settled on a picturesque property in Bulverde, Texas. Many holidays and family gatherings were held there where their door was always open to all. Claire and Mike enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling to chili cookoffs, and helping to host the Texas Folklife Festival for many years. Sunday afternoons barbecuing with friends, going to the beach, camping, and tubing at the river were all incredibly special memories they shared.
Claire was deeply devoted to her family and faith. She attended St. Brigid Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, and eventually found herself at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Honey Creek. While at St. Joseph Catholic Church she served in the Lost Sheep Ministry, Bereavement Committee, and taught Faith Formation classes. During mass Claire loved sitting with her friends and always looked forward to going to lunch or dinner after. She also enjoyed participating in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Fall Festival, bingo, and other church festivities.
Additionally, Claire enjoyed cheering on the San Antonio Spurs, St. Louis Cardinals, and UTSA Roadrunners. Most of all, Claire loved spending time with her family.
Claire was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mildred Lamken, brother, William Lamken, son, Joseph Martin, husbands, Terrence Martin Sr. and husband Michael McGlothlin.
Claire is survived by her children, Terry Jr. Martin and wife Amy, Tim Martin, Tom Martin and wife Trina, Cathy Shea and husband Bryan. Stepchildren, Michael, Jr. and wife Jacquie McGlothlin, and Katie Sharp. Claire loved and adored her nephews: Chris Lamken and Josh Lamken; grandchildren, Silas, Jamie, Lily, Sam, Jacob, Kyana, Chevy, Larkin, Marilyn, Jay, Brooke, Raena, and Vanessa; and great grandchildren Ayden, Layla, Grant, Ariya, Marshall, Max, Marlee, and Mason.
Claire was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Friend. She was a beautiful person, one of a kind, and will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
Rosary will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. with a Funeral Mass following at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Honey Creek 25430 TX-46, Bulverde, TX 78163.
