Clara Jablonski Danysh was born on June 29, 1925 in Goliad County, Texas. She was born on a farm, 4 years ahead of the Great Depression and the challenging times that came with it. The oldest of 5 daughters, Clara grew up in a large and robust family committed to the Catholic faith, family, hard work and self-sacrifice. She graduated from Yorktown High School and moved to San Antonio almost immediately. She had had enough of farm life. She worked for Frost Bros. where she exhibited a love of style and fashion that she never lost. She was an excellent seamstress. During World War II, she fell in love with Jack Danysh. While Jack was away in the Philippines and occupied Japan, Clara wrote Jack every day from January 1945 until the end of the war. He kept those letters until his death. When Jack returned home in 1946, he and Clara married. That marriage lasted over 70 years. Jack died in December 2016.
After the War, Clara began a long career with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and, later, the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She was part of the team that worked to meet the pent-up demand for affordable housing of the young men and women who had supported the war effort. Along the way she raised and educated 3 children. Clara and Jack retired in the mid-1980s. Retirement was filled with travel, friends, family and service to her church and church affiliated organizations. Clara and Jack journeyed throughout the United States and to Alaska, Europe, Canada and South America.
Clara was a devout, practicing Catholic. Daily prayer was her routine. Over the years she was an active member of numerous organizations including the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; the Sultanas de Bejar; the Marianist Affiliates; The Saint Bernadette's Family Guild and the Hunters Creek Garden Club.
Her later years brought limitations and discomfort. But Clara was not a complainer as she had a sweet spirit about her. Her good-byes to her children always ended with these words: "Thank you so much for your visit and for all that you do for me."
Clara was predeceased by her parents Peter Paul Jablonski and Carolyn Kaminski Jablonski. She is survived by her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Donald C. and Linda Danysh of Dunwoody, Georgia; Richard C. and Kathleen D. Danysh of San Antonio, Texas; Donna D. and Joseph Carrabbaa of Houston, Texas; Alicia Danysh Nations; Hilary Danysh Witcher; Travis Danysh; Peter Danysh; Nicole Carrabba and Jacquelyn Carrabba; Scott and Skyler Nations and Emmalia and Anderson Witcher.
A memorial Mass in celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 10703 Wurzbach Rd. San Antonio, Texas, followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, Clara's family invites contributions to the charity of your choice or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Antonio at P.O. Box 831074, San Antonio, Texas 78283.
The family wishes to particularly thank family physician Dr. Cheryl H. Mueller and caregivers Janie Montenegro and Alejandrina Pacheco for the attentive and comforting care each provided to Clara, and also the staff at Adante Assisted Living for their help and assistance.
