

Clarence "CJ" Krause went to be with our Lord on December 25, 2002 after a five-year courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer. He was born to Joseph Krause and Julia Cromcak Krause on September 28, 1924 in Hallettsville, Texas. He grew up in Moravia, Texas until 1941 when he came to San Antonio. He completed Draughtan's Business College, the American Institue of Banking then earned his Masters Degree from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He began his professional career with Frost National Bank as a mailroom messenger in 1942 and retired as Senior Vice President and Cashier in 1993. During his tenure, he managed every department of the bank except lending. In addition to his distinguished professional career he was a leader in community affairs. He was an active member of the downtown Founders Lions Club, President's Club of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, San Antonio Archdiocesan Finance Council, San Antonio Archdiocesan Grievance Committee, the Executive Service Corp. of San Antonio and St. Paul's Catholic Parish Council. As a devoted parishioner of St. Paul's, he chaired the church's annual festival for 17 years. He was a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusaleum and he served on the Credit Committee for HemisFair in 1968; was a past Chairman of the San Antonio Clearing House Association and was a former president of the Santa Rosa Hospital Men's Club. While at Frost Bank in 1979 he was also financial advisor to Our Lady of The Lake University and 1979 was selected to serve on the Board of Directors. In 1987 Mr. Krause became the first lay person ever elected as Chairman of the Board of Our Lady of the Lake, a position he held until 1998 when he was named Chair Emeritus. On November 13, 2002 he received the Sister Elizabeth Ann Sueltenfuss Distinguished Service Award. His parents and brother, Theodore Krause, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Maurice Barrett Krause; son, Michael Dean Krause; daughter Erika "Rika" Krause Smith; two granddaughters, Stacy Shibley, Patricia Smith and grandson Brian Smith, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister JoDein Roznovsky and her husband Steve and brother Julius Krause and wife Delores and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers Brian Smith, Russell Barrett, Keith Johanson, Charles Johanson, Steve Roznovsky and Shawn Roznovsky.
