Afterwards, he taught briefly at Holy Spirit Parochial School. Then, until his retirement in December, 2001, Claude worked at both the San Antonio Light and later at the San Antonio Express-News. While at the San Antonio Express-News Claude was an Executive News Editor and was known for his integrity and mentoring of new reporters.
Claude had various interests and hobbies. In past years he would travel into the interior of Mexico to pursue his collecting of folk art. Claude was also an avid guitar player and guitar collector of sorts. He had a love of motorcycles and enjoyed collecting old record albums. To keep busy he would do occasional editing work for various publications and relatives. Claude's normal attire was a UT sweatshirt. He had various ones which accented his burnt orange blood and gave you a hint as to his deep devotion to his Alma Mater. Calling Claude a sports nut would be an understatement. He could converse with you for hours on any major collegiate or professional sports and many of the teams.
Claude is a beloved son of Frank and Elizabeth Simpson and after his retirement from the newspaper he cared for his father and mother through his father's death and later mother's death in October, 2009.
Claude is survived by his siblings: Steve Simpson, Diane Simpson, and Jeannine Simpson McReynolds.
