Claudia Sykes Watson Gowen

Claudia Sykes Watson Gowen, my best friend died today, Thursday, September 13, 2007 from cancer. She was born to the union of Willie M. and Claudia E. Watson, at the old Station Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Her final days were spent at home in Hospice Care.

Claudia graduated from Incarnate Word High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree from Incarnate Word College, and a Master's Degree in Library Science from Our Lady of the Lake University.

She taught school in the San Antonio Independent School District and was a volunteer in the Churchill High School Library.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-six plus years, Paul Gowen; one son Bill Gowen and wife Julie; and grandson William Paul Gowen.

She is a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, the Petroleum Club, and former member of the Woman's Club of San Antonio, and the Bright Shawl. With friends founded, The Castle Hills Home Owners Association. Special thanks to the Medical Staffs at CTRC, University Hospital, the Methodist Hospital, Adventa Hospice Services, and the prayers and thoughts of friends as well as strangers.
