Clifford Louis Avery, Jr., 58, passed away on September 12, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on December 4, 1966, in Stamford, Connecticut, Cliff lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, deep love for his family, and a passion for the things that brought him joy. Cliff’s heart belonged to his family.
He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Michelle Avery; sons, Anthony Avery, Brandon Avery, and Zachary Avery; daughter-in-law Reagan Avery; grandsons, Hunter Avery and Owen Avery; brother, Andy Avery and sister-in-law, Kristin Avery; nephew, Drew Avery; mother, Sandra Graning; stepfather, Gary Graning; and stepmother, Kathy Avery Rigillo.
Cliff’s memory is cherished by many who were touched by his warmth and generosity. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Louis Avery, Sr.; first wife, Annmarie Avery; grandparents Doris and Rene Dutetre; and grandparents, George and Virginia Avery.
Cliff built a lifelong career as a certified pinsetter technician, working in bowling centers across Texas and on the East Coast. Known as an expert in his field, he took great pride in his work and was respected by colleagues for his skill and commitment. His hands-on knowledge and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on the industry he served so faithfully.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Cliff had a giant heart—his love for those closest to him was immense and unwavering. Whether it was time spent with family or sharing laughs with friends, he gave of himself fully. He found peace on the water as a dedicated fisherman and was never happier than when aboard his beautiful and cherished boat.
Music was another source of joy for Cliff—he was the biggest Eddie Van Halen fan you’d ever meet, often smiling ear to ear while listening to the music that he loved so much. A devoted sports fan, Cliff followed the New Jersey Devils hockey team and the New York Giants football team with enthusiasm. His love of sports began early—he played baseball and ran track during high school.
He also played saxophone for MacArthur High School’s state championship marching band, showcasing both discipline and talent that would carry through all aspects of his life. Cliff’s legacy lives on through the memories shared by those who knew him best and he will be missed greatly. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held on October 3, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North - 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232 for those who would like to join in celebration of his life.
