So sorry to find out about Mr Hellums death we no longer get the news paper and just found out today. So sorry for your loss,we were looking for him because he was too young to retire and the boot shop was closed,we were shocked at the news of his passing,he was a fine craftsman as well and he will be missed by all his customers also.our deepest sympathy to your entire family.

I am truly shocked, and saddened, to learn of the death of Mr. Hellums. Although I only knew him through his business, over the years I knew he would always have a smile, and a quip, or two, when I stopped by to drop off, or pick up, an item that needed repair. I pray that his family will find peace and comfort in knowing that their loved-one was a blessing to those who needed his expertise, and who always received from him, in addition, a sweet smile.

Dear Mrs. Hellums and family: 
I have been taking my shoes to Clyde and A-1 for many years. I always knew when I walked into the store that Clyde would have a kind word and funny remark to start my day. Yesterday, I went to A-1 to pick up some shoes I had left and saw the sign- my heart just fell. But I wanted you to know that I also saw 4 other people -customers- standing in front of A-1 and talking about our loss. One of the ladies was a nun and she said, "Well, we know Clyde went straight to heaven because he was such a good man." She was SO right. May God bless you in your time of sorrow and may you take comfort from all of us who care. We were all blessed to have known him.

I'm a nameless, faceless person for your family. I never knew Mr. Hellums name and he likely never knew mine, except when I filled out a claim ticket. I went by the shop Monday and was shocked to find the notes on the door. I never went into the shop when he wouldn't come out with a huge smile and weldome. Not only did he do beautiful work, but he would make every meeting a great experience and brighten my day. I had over 10 years experience of his doing his magic on shoes for me - and some specialty work. He was one of those unique people in our lives where we unfortunately only know their business personna, but deeply like and respect them as a person. The kind of person who becomes important, although we never enter their personal life. We are blessed when we have the opportunity in life to encounter such men as he is.

Hi dad... 
Where do I start? You were so many things to me. You were my father-in-law many years ago, you were my friend, you were someone that I could always go to no matter what, you were there with your wisdom when I needed guidance, you were there with a smile and a hug at anytime. Even after Mike and I were divorced, you made me feel like I was still a part of the family. You have always treated Kimberly and Ashley as family. You will never know how much you mean to me. I am so grateful for all the years that I was blessed to have you in my life. You made such a huge inpact on me and my girls. Some of my favorite memories of you are playing with Suzie in the back yard, going to the drag races,hanging out in the living room watching TV and eating mom's goodies and watching you playing on the floor with Kimberly and Ashley. 
I'm so grateful for the time that Kimberly and Ashley had with you. Kimberly and I will tell Ashley all about her "Grandpa Clyde" when she gets older. I want her to know what a wonderful man you were. 
I love you so much dad!! You presence will be so missed. I will see you in Heaven one day. I'm sure Suzie is sitting by your side up there so give her a pat on the head for me : Bye dad........

We so much enjoyed doing business with Clyde. Each of us had a story to tell the other after we stopped by the shop. He will be missed.

Dad was an amazing man with his knowledge and great sense of humor. He was great with his grandchildren. He will be missed.

I was stunned when I read in Friday's newspaper that Clyde had passed away. I have been a customer of A-1 Shoe Repair for years and he always, always, always, was happy, kind and friendly. He took care of all my shoes especially my favorite black boots that I've had for years and my husband's Red Wing work boots. He could take a pair of Danny's beat-up, dirty Red Wing's and make them look new again! Please accept my sincere sympathies for your loss. I will certainly miss Clyde. Julie Delahunt

Clyde was a great man. He was a good father and husdend. I only meet him a few times when I would spend the night when we were in middle school. He taught His kids what good friendship was, to work hard and that family is very important. Thanks to Clyde, Cathy taught me how to be a better friend, and to work hard. I always wanted a Dad like Clyde. Thank you Clyde. We will miss you. It is my turn to help Cathy. I will make sure she is alright.

Hey Dad... you are so loved by so many, you touched everyone that ever had the good fortune to meet you. I will forever be grateful for your place in my life and my place in yours. Thanks for being there for me no matter what, thanks for always making me feel like I belonged as a part of your family, and thank you for my husband, he is the man he is because of you. Please receive our sympathy and condoleances for Mr. Hellums' untimely disappearance. It is a tremenduos loss for us too, Mr. Clyde was an amazing man, aside from being an excellent proffessional he was a TRUE FRIEND...always had a good word for everybody, always had an advice or a joke for everything. The news of his disappearance came as the biggest shock, to us he was "an institution" - of wisdom and proffessionalism. 
We are all proud we had the privilege of knowing him.

Please accept my condolences. I knew Clyde from his professional life as a shoe repairman - he was that rarest of people, a truly good man. He had integrity and honesty, a great sense of humor, and a friendly twinkle in his eye. I was fortunate to have known him. He was very proud of his sons and their military careers, and spoke of them often. They had a fine father.

Clyde was more than just a father-in-law to me and I loved him as I do my own father. He was a great source of information and wisdom for me when it came to understanding his son. Many times I have been frustrated and Dad helped me see that Mike and I were meant to be together. When I looked at him, I knew he was proud of his son and the family we have created. Mike and I have two of his four grandchildren, and Dad was very proud of them too. All of our hearts are missing him now!

To my father, a man I truly loved. I wish I said I loved you more often but you and I were not the mushy type, you and I were sted fast and strong, and stubborn. Our last morning drive to work we at least got to talk about something that we are both passionate about, muscle cars. You and I both got to say "I love you". Don't worry about all of us, we will miss you, I will step up take on your job as our leader the best I can. I just hope I can guide people as well as you have. So drive off in your 69' Chevelle 396 SS, and go find Grandma and Pa-Pa.

Clyde and I lived across the street from each other back in our teen years during the Vietnam era. We competed for affections of the fairer sex, raced our fast cars terrifying anyone in our path and spent many days partying like there was no tomorrow. It was great! One time we even "borrowed" my parent's car and drove to Oklahoma to visit his grandparents. That was one crazy trip, and is a story in itself. When Roxie came into his life....that love tamed his need for excitement and adventure. His love for her and his future they made together was a gift from God. I love you, Clyde. Save a pair of wings for me. The Lord will watch over your loved ones. Wealth is fleeting, but friendship is eternal. See you soon, dear friend. I will miss your emails, and you calling me POOP HEAD!

I knew Mr hellums for a long time. When i was younger i can remember him telling me and Chris some advice and us blowing it off as children. It comes back that when you get older you appreciate the words given when you were younger. I may not remember them, but i do know they stuck and most likely helped me out in some way.

Many people know us as we grow up and grow old, but no one as well as our brothers and sisters who knew us as children. You're in God's care now, so rest baby brother.

I only met Clyde once, when he first started dating my cousin, Roxanne. I only know that she loved him very much, and that their love and devotion to each other continued through the years. I'm sure Clyde will be greatly missed amongst his family and friends. Our love, prayers and thoughts for peace at heart goes out to all of you at this time of need. he was the the man that keep-ed me going. he helped me win he cud, sliced win he cudent, held me and sed he was prouwed of me. he was their win i needed him and never stop-ed being me dad. even win i didn't slisen. now the man i turned to won't be their win i need him. no net to catch me. no one to talk to to tell me the incite of his mistakes. now i know how he felt win his dad left him. he told me one knight about the way he felt win grandpa died. i now know how he felt. so to you who haven sed something to your dad. you may want to think about it. before its to late. i know i wish i had call him the other day win i was in my room by my self. he didn't make my disitions for me, but he did help me think them over. he tot me to fix trucks, work on homes, build about any thing, and i always asked him if i dint know. now who do i ask, and wear do i tern win i have a problem? he was no saint but he was my dad. he will always be my dad.
