Clyde had a very interesting life and lived it to the fullest. He started life as a farm boy near Flora, Mississippi. His journeys began at age six, when he was put alone on a bus to Philadelphia and later to NYC to join his mother, where he rode the city on his bicycle delivering laundry and other jobs until 1938. He and his mother then moved back to Mississippi where he completed high school in 1942 as president of the senior class, captain of the football team, and in long hand, wrote all the narrative for the Flora High School yearbook.
With WWII in full force, Clyde entered the Army Air Corps in 1943. He was commissioned in the United States Air Force as Second Lieutenant in June, 1945, with flight training in Eagle Pass, an area which he grew to love. Clyde fell in love with and married Barbara Giles of Corpus Christi in 1947, starting a seventy year journey of adventure and love.
Clyde retired from the Air Force as Lt. Colonel in 1965 having flown the Berlin Airlift, worked in the Pentagon, served as a Hurricane Hunter in Bermuda and as a Nuclear Test Pilot at Christmas Island in addition to holding many highly responsible positions and sometime participating in top secret missions and achieving many medals of commendation.
In 1965, Clyde began his second career as a financial advisor with E. F. Hutton until his retirement in 1984, eventually moving to San Antonio where he and Barbara have lived for 29 years.
