

Lin, as he was known by friends and associates, was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma, to Chester and Jewell Jones on June 30, 1943. He graduated Moss High School in Horntown, Oklahoma and married June Mullins on February 25, 1961, in Neosho, Missouri. A graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Central Michigan, Lin was commissioned a Military Intelligence Officer in the Army on May 26, 1966, and in 1970 became an Army Aviator. After serving over 30 years, Lin retired as a Colonel (0-6) on June 30, 1994. Major assignments included Battalion Commander, 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion, Republic of Korea; United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania; Assistant Chief of Staff G-2, Eighth U.S. Army, Republic of Korea; and President, U.S. Army Physical Disability Evaluation Board, Fort Sam Houston. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Lin was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal. Lin was inducted into the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Georgia, in May 2022. As a dedicated runner, Lin ran over 20 marathons. In his retirement, he was a member of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio and enjoyed traveling to see his grandchildren and old friends.
Lin was preceded in death by his son, James Brian Jones; his brother, Larry Jones; and his sister, Christine Jones Begley.
Lin is survived by his by his wife, June Jones; daughters, Lori Kelly and Lesli Asiello (Doug); brother, Robert Jones (Leta Mae); grandchildren, Joshua Kelly, Katie Kelly Fitzgerald (Jack), Cassie Kelly Buchanan (Nathan), Julia Asiello, Christian Asiello, and Ryan Asiello; and great-grandchild, Declan Fitzgerald.
Lindon’s family extends sincere gratitude to all of the doctors and nurses at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, San Antonio, Texas, with Minister Davida Lambert officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
