Colonel Edward (Eddie) A. Mora, U.S. Army (Ret.), age 84, passed away peacefully at San Antonio Military Medical Center on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his family. Eddie was a beloved husband, amazing father, loving grandfather and proudly served our nation. Eddie led a life marked by honor, service, and unwavering dedication to his God, country, his family, and the San Antonio Spurs.
Eddie was born on December 17, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Harlandale High School and completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Saint Mary’s University. He was commissioned into the United States Army in 1963, where he served with distinction for over 26 years in the Army Medical Service Corp., rising to the rank of Colonel. He commanded organizations at all levels from Platoon Leader to Battalion Command, including distinguished leadership in combat. His assignments include tours in Vietnam, Japan, Germany, Korea, and in the United States. Eddie earned numerous commendations, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Upon retirement, Eddie continued to serve his community through church participation with St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, volunteer work at the Army Medical Museum Foundation and continuing his passion of sports with the Senior Olympics (basketball and softball).
Beyond his military career, Eddie was a loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Gloria Jean (Murray); sons, Michael and wife Sheri and Marcus and wife Brande; grandchildren, Travis, Sam, Grant, Branden, Collin, and Diego; brother, George and wife Laura and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents (Valentine and Josephine), sisters (Mary, Eva, Gloria) and brother (Val).
Eddie will be remembered for his charisma, humor, spontaneous travel plans and the love he shared so freely with those fortunate to know him.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 thousand Oaks Dr, SATX 78232.
Committal Service with full Military honors will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Reception will follow at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation in Eddie’s name to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church or AMEDD Museum Foundation.
