

Born in Winona, MN in 1927 to Albert and Hazel Larson. Upon graduation from High School in 1945 he entered the US Navy. Upon discharge, he attended Winona State College. He entered the Air Force Aviation Cadet program and graduated with wings and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1949. He had tours flying fighters in Germany, Nevada, Texas, Arizona, and Korea, before being assigned to fly B-47, and then B-52s. He volunteered to get back in Fighters and went to Thailand as a F-105 Squadron Commander flying his beloved fighters in missions to North Vietnam. He was shot down over Hanoi and captured on his 95th mission in 1967. He spent the next 6 years as a POW in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.” He was repatriated in 1973 and was medically retired in 1974 due to injuries received as a POW.
He became active and very successful in Real Estate, and in 1982, started a small oil company, successfully drilling wells in South Bexar and Atiscosa Counties. He then became active raising and racing Quarter Horses in Texas and the surrounding states and remained an active horse racing enthusiast. His numerous military decorations include two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, 5 Distinguished Flying Crosses with V, two Bronze Stars with V, two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Service Medal, 10 Air Medals, the Commendation medal, and the POW Medal. He was a life member of the Daedaliens Society, Distinguished Flying Cross Society, Purple Heart Association, Air Force Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Red River Rat Society, Ex-Prisoner of War Society, and the American Quarter Horse Society.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary, of 67 years; sons, Michael Larson and wife Denise and Robert Larson and Ruby; daughter, Pamela Page and son in law Richard F. Page Jr.; grandson, Richard Page III and wife Jeni; granddaughter, Nichole; and a great grandsons, Tristan Page and Kaleb Mayfield.
Interment will be in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 1:15 PM.
