Concepción G. Garcia, 95, our beloved matriarch, beautiful mother, loving grandmother, great grandmother and the last of the Garza-Gonzalez siblings, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
She was born on July 20, 1930, in Karnes City, Texas, to the late Reymundo Gonzalez and Eustacia Garza, the fifth of seven siblings. Raised on a farm in Karnes City, one of Concepción's fondest childhood memories was of her father loading her and her siblings into a 1930s Ford Model car to visit their Aunt-sometimes even hand-cranking the engine to get it started.
Concepción was fondly remembered by her international students as "Señorita Maestra" a reflection of her warmth and dedication as an educator. In the years that followed, developed a love for sewing and went on to work as a tailor in a downtown San Antonio agency, carving out a place for herself in a traditionally male-dominated profession.
She also had a deep passion for volunteerism. Concepción leaves behind a legacy of selfless service, having devoted countless hours to organizations including Nix Hospital, Robert Green Hospital, the South Texas Medical Center, University Hospital-especially the children’s and baby wards-the American Red Cross, Morningside Manor, St. Paul Community Center Day Care, and many others. She was a devoted volunteer, always offering a kind hand and a warm heart to those in need.
Her passion for community service was unmatched, and her tireless efforts made a profound difference in the lives of many. Concepción instilled the values of hard work, education, and volunteerism in all those around her, especially her family. Nothing brought a smile to her face more quickly than her children and grandchildren, who were the absolute joy of her life.
Concepción was preceded in death by her parents, Reymundo and Eustacia Gonzalez; her siblings Eleonora, Carlos, Jesusa, Guadalupe, Rodolfo and Jose; and her daughter, Maria.
