I just learned of Craig's passing today from a mutual friend.
He was such a unique and talented man and had a wonderful, dry sense of humor.
I can only be thankful that I knew him and find peace that he is with his son, Michael.

I taught with Craig for 11 years in the UTSA Department of Architecture and he was a wonderful teacher who related well to students and always was able to inspire their best efforts . 

I would always enjoy running into him in the hallways or outside the building and speaking with him. He always brightened my day with his smile, twinkle in his eye, and stories that were both funny and teachable moments. 

He was an old fashioned gentleman in the best sense of the word, and will be missed by many.

I met Craig in August of 1985 when I enrolled in architecture classes at SAC and by October we were friends. His friendship has meant so much to me. Over the years I have seen some of his highs and lows. I also saw his strong faith and spirit. I was lucky enough to teach with him at UTSA. I so enjoyed our times of beers, lies and laughs. The words of Ringo Star’s song Photograph come to mind. “I can’t get used to livin’here while my heart is broke. My tears I cry for you. I want you here to have and hold as the years go by and we grow old and grey.’ Whenever we parted or hung up the phone our last words were, I love you. I will miss and cherish you the rest of the days of my life.

Craig was a great guy & 1 of my good friends!  I always enjoyed talking with him & I loved hearing all his stories!  He will be missed!  My condolences to his family.

It was always a pleasure to watch Craig teach and interact with students and faculty. He was fun to be around and if you asked, he'd give you his unvarnished opinion, something I greatly respected. So many people will blow smoke up your keester, but not Craig. I was blessed to have been one of his students.

R.I.P. Mr.Blount! I remember during our visit to the Perot, when I was goofing off and my Oakleys fell from the second floor. I was so embarrassed to go pick them up, but you encouraged me to own up and pick them up. They sustained a major structural failure at the frame, near the lenses. While many people were laughing at me, you took the sunglasses and glued the frame to mend for me. You told me, "don't worry what folks are saying." "Wear them", you said. The best part is that you said and did all that in front of everyone. You stood up for me while also teaching me to own my shit! God bless you Mr.Blount. R.I.P.

Mr.Blount was one of my favorite professors during my time at UTSA. I was in his studio and rendering classes in the early 2000s. One of my favorite college possessions is a watercolor assignment from his class that hangs in my home office. He will be deeply missed, but I know his spirit of creativity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. My thoughts are with his family and friends!

Craig Blount was a very good man, and a talented teacher and architect. He was an inspiration to his students and was able to get them to do more than they thought possible. He did this with his trademark smile and lively banter with his students. 

For many years, Craig was my faculty colleague at the UTSA School of Architecture. I remember fondly his engaging smile and lively conversations when we stopped to talk in the hallways, that always left me with a smile and sense of optimism.

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Blount’s passing. He was such a wonderful professor and the best architectural renderer on the planet! He helped so many students learn to draw with his kind and patient demeanor. My heart goes out to his family. ❤️

It was such a shock to hear about Professor Blount's passing.  He was such an iconic character with his red truck and the fact that no snack was safe around him.  He left a lasting impression on all his students and he helped me so much.  Through him I got real commissioned work and he was always available to give advice.  My condolences to his friends and family, he really was one of the best professors I ever had and he will be missed.

Mr. Blount was a class act. As a student at SAC, the studio was filled with fun and banter. When Mr. Blount sketched with you, he showed the skills to render. With his words he made you feel good about your work. His swatch color method I still take inspiration from and pass on to my students.

You certainly did not lead a boring life, dear friend. We were blessed to have you in our lives for over five decades. Rest in peace now. We will see you on the other side. ☁️💔Joanne and Mike Stevenson

My heart goes out to Blount's family and friends during this very difficult time.
I had the honor to take one of his drawing classes at UTSA which had a huge impact on me and so many others. In class we would all gather around a small table and watch him draw and paint, it was such a delight! He was so talented and yet so humble and supportive. He really wanted us to succeed and see the magic in making beautiful things. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to learn from him. He was such a fantastic person through and through. His jokes sent shock waves of laughter throughout his classrooms and the joy he could bring to a space was unparalleled. He will be sorely missed by so many who learned so much from him. Rest in Peace Professor Blount, thank you!

It was truly heartbreaking to learn about the passing of Professor Blount. His impact on students' lives was profound, and personally, he inspired me to strive for excellence. I will always cherish the memories of his guidance and teaching, and I hold him in the highest regard for his dedication to each student's growth. Professor Blount not only helped me refine my love for sketching and improve my Prismacolor skills but also instilled in me a deep passion for architecture. He was always genuine, sparking fascinating conversations and taking the time to connect with his students, sharing laughs and his authentic self. Professor Blount's candid nature truly honored his name and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Professor Blount would always say when you are stuck or don’t know what to do, “just make something beautiful.” I can’t count how many times I have returned to that statement when pondering a design decision over the years since taking his second-year design studio at UTSA. I owe so much to him as he truly shaped my eye to recognize a language of design that I carry with me to this day. From teaching me how to properly draw a line during my first week of architecture school to offering advice on where to go for graduate school to just chatting on the steps outside the studios of the Monterey Building, he always was there for students. To Professor Blount’s family, my sincere condolences are with you at this time. He touched countless lives and I thank you for sharing him with us. I will miss you Professor Blount and thank you for all those great years!

Condolences to the Blount Family first and foremost. I want to say that Graig was an inspiration both as a professor and a colleague. It was a pleasure to study under him and if you ever had the opportunity to see him render on a chalkboard with yellow chalk you knew you were in the presence of a special person. I learned so much from this man and I'm so saddened to hear of his passing. I had Prof. Blount for Design III at SAC and I attribute much of what I learned about design to his studio. To this day, I still have both physical models from the two projects I did in his class. I'll always remember those classes fondly. Rest in peace Prof. Blount.

My deepest condolences to Professor Blount’s family and closest friends. The impact he had on my life (and many others) cannot be expressed with words. He created a ripple effect of love, happiness and wit that I’ve never witnessed before. I will miss and love you always my dear Professor, and friend.
