Craig Williams Wright

August 31, 1937 – May 20, 2026
Obituary of Craig Williams Wright
IN THE CARE OF

Porter Loring Mortuary - McCullough

Craig Williams Wright, born August 31, 1937, in San Antonio, died May 20, 2026.

Craig was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Samuel C. Wright, of 50+ years, and is survived by her son Ben (Maureen) of Rockport, Texas and son Shelton (Ruth) of West Fork, Arkansas. In addition to her two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig was delighted by her grandson, Gene, an adventurer and gentleman.

Craig grew up in the Monte Vista section of San Antonio and spoke fondly of riding her horse through Brackenridge Park to see nearby friends. Later, she graduated St. Mary’s Hall and left San Antonio for the University of Texas at Austin; there, she joined the Chi Omegas, earned a degree in English and, soon after, settled with her young family in Virginia.

Wherever Craig lived – France, the Middle East, plus her extensive travels through Europe – she was always proud of her San Antonio roots, and took a special delight in the food, the culture and history, Club Giraud and friends, and the San Antonio Spurs.

Once she and husband Sam wound up their professional careers, they came home to San Antonio. As years passed, a new life in the Towers beckoned. On the 21st floor, Craig and Sam found a smart and lively group of people who gladly offered their love and laughter in exchange for a glass of wine. Always social and outgoing, Craig and Sam also kept up with their wonderful group of San Antonio friends outside the Towers.

Craig enjoyed talking news and politics with everyone no matter their party affiliation. Given her streak of irreverence, she was once asked how she avoided conflict in the current climate of partisanship. She said she would, at times, express herself “sotto voce”. To the very end, she enjoyed the support and affection of her friends as well as the gourmet meals and fun in Rockport with Ben and Maureen. She will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother, devoted wife, and a spirited friend and companion to many people in San Antonio and beyond.
