Daisy Shipman, a 5th generation Texan, was born on April 16, 1923, in Munday, Texas, to Ben C. and Leoma Tuggle and went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2009. Daisy grew to become a beautiful young woman as she shared in the work of her family's cotton farm. Daisy loved to sew and became a gifted seamstress. After her high school graduation, Daisy became an infamous "Rosie the Riveter," building WWII aircraft. She met her wartime sweetheart, Gaston Shipman, on his last home furlough before his deployment overseas. Soon after his return, three years later, Daisy and Gaston married on November 17, 1945. In 1946, Daisy moved to San Antonio and began practice as an exceptional hair dresser. In the Jefferson Village area, Daisy opened Sheer Beauty Salon and attended Jefferson Methodist Church where she served others in many different capacities. Daisy's favorite committees were the Good Neighbor Program and the Garden Club. In 1968, Daisy began working for Standard Paper Co., and retired sixteen years later as Manager and President. Her retirement years were spent in gardening, sewing, playing with grandchildren, and serving others in need. In 2000, Daisy and Gaston moved to The Meadows Retirement Center. Daisy found many ways to help others including serving as a Meadows ambassador, coordinating a Women's Bible Study and chartering a Red Hat Society Club. She will always be remembered as a Godly woman with the countenance of a true southern lady. Daisy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gaston F. Shipman; her two children, M'Liss Shipman Graham and Jack Shipman; five grandchildren, D'Nae Graham Weaver, M'Rhea Graham Peterson, K'Rina Graham, Brad Shipman, and Brian Shipman; three great-grandchildren, Luke Weaver, Colin Weaver, and Kate Weaver. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson United Methodist Church or The Covenant Fund at Morningside Ministries.
