

Col. Dale Robert Greenlief, age 87, of San Antonio, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2009. He was the son of Ernest Joseph Greenlief and Eva Fitzpatrick, of Weston, W.Va.
He served in the U.S. Army for 34 years which included service in the Philippine Islands during WW II where he was awarded a battle field commission. He also served in the Vietnam campaign from 1969-70 and retired at the rank of Colonel in 1972.
Following his retirement, he earned a Bachelors' Degree and a Teaching Certificate from Trinity University. He later pursued a career as a history and government teacher at South San Antonio High School. D.R. was a cattle rancher, horseman, hunter, fisherman and boater. He also enjoyed camping and was an avid reader.
D.R. is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over fifty years, Margaret Marsh Greenlief and his grandson, Jason Greenlief.
He is survived by his sons, Rocklin L. Greenlief and Jeffrey L. Greenlief; granddaughters, Roxanne Blackwell, Kelli Greenlief and Jillian Greenlief; brother Arthur Lee Greenlief and great-granddaughter, Jordan Blackwell, several nephews, nieces and extended family in Florida.
