

Allen “Dale” Saulsberry, Lt. Colonel USAF, from San Antonio Texas was called home on June 26, 2026. He was 81 and passed just two days shy of his 82nd birthday. He was born on June 28, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Alvey Joseph and Rita Saulsberry.
Dale attended schools in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated high school at Thomas Jefferson High School in 1963.
After high school Dale worked many jobs to save money to attend Nursing School beginning in 1964 at Lamar Tech College of Technology and Science (now Lamar University). After completing a two-year course in nursing, Dale was accepted at the Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas in Beaumont Texas where he completed another two years of nursing.
After earning his nursing degrees, Dale joined the United States Air Force as an officer during the Vietnam War. In the Air Force, Dale completed the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Willford Hall, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio Texas, becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Dale practiced Anesthesia for 33 years. He also retired from Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital after 24 years of CRNA service in the Department of Anesthesiology.
Dale loved to travel and he spent his lifetime traveling and cruising all over the world. However, Dale’s greatest love was for his family, friends, and neighbors who were known to receive dessert trays upon moving into the neighborhood. Dale was always present for holidays and he always opened his home to his friends and family.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Alvey and Rita Saulsberry, and his longtime partner Warren Blanchard.
Dale is survived by his sister, Charlyn Weaver and her husband Jerry, Niece Vickie Moore and her husband Sam, Nephew, Rodney Villemez and his wife Kim. Also great nieces Amber Villemez and her husband Adam Myers, Tori Villemez and her husband Sean, Abigail Moore Johnson and her husband Jeremy, Emily Moore Sprott and her husband Oliver Sport III. He is survived by great nephews Brian Williford and his wife Whitney, and Andrew Moore. Dale is also survived by great great nephews Emerson Myers, Braxtyn Johnson , Bronson Myers, and Oliver Sprott IV.
In Philanthropy, Dale established an Endowed Scholarship at The University of Texas Health Science School of Anesthesiology for nurses in his effort to pay it forward for his very successful career in Anesthesiology.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thankfulness to Dr. Tom Comstock of Atlanta Georgia and Ivy Donnelly for their extreme care for Dale during his last few weeks.
A graveside service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Woodland Church, located at 15315 Huebner Rd.
