It is with a sad heart that I recently learned of Dan's passing.

I never worked all that closely with Dan in Accounting at 1010 N. St. Mary's, but the few encounters that I did have with him were pleasurable. However, those folks who did work closely with Dan always spoke highly of him.

Dan was always gracious with his time and expertise and served as a mentor to many. 

He was a special leader and friend to his co-workers. I don't recall anyone ever saying that Dan spoke negatively about anyone. He was truly a man of character.

My impression of Dan was that he had a rather dry sense of humor and he was a man of very few words; but, when he did speak it was short, direct, and to the point.

Dan and I shared stories about us both being in the military, especially basic training and the infamous infiltration course under miserable (extremely cold weather, sloppy pig sty mud, etc.) and dangerous conditions while low crawling under barbed wire for about a mile with machine gun fire (blanks with tracers) about 18-24 inches above your body.

Dan said his military experience was an experience that no one could pay him a million dollars to repeat it again, but he would not take a million dollars for the experience that it provided either.

I seem to recall that Dan and I may have been on a S.W.B.T. baseball team in S.A. when I first became a manager with the company in 1969.

Here is a saying regarding losing a loved one that you may find comfort in reading and reflecting upon:

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you and whispered come with me. 
With tearful eyes we watched and saw you pass away.
Although we love you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. 
God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

May the Lord comfort you as no one else can.

It is my sincere hope that each family member will feel some comfort from your friends, family, and reflecting upon your fond memories of Dan.

Your pain that you feel is like a deep wound, and in time, a long time down the road, that wound will begin to slowly heal, but will never be forgotten. You will always have all the memories of your husband Dan. 

Be thankful that we each have the Lord to lean on, and to carry us through this very difficult time in one's life!
