

Dan was born in Stamford, Texas, on December 1, 1916 to Willard C. and Ida Shaw McLendon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Louise McLendon; and sisters, Helen McLendon of Alpine, Texas, and Ida Jean Albright of Athens, Texas. Dan is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dan Jr. and Connie of San Antonio; daughter, Mary Helen of Austin; son, Terry of Lubbock; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and one sister, Mattie Jo Copeland of Austin.
His early years were spent in Stamford and Abilene where he graduated from high school before attending the University of Texas at Austin. After marrying, he lived in Odessa, Corpus Christi, Houston, and San Antonio.
After leaving the University of Texas, Dan succeeded in sales, most notably in the life insurance industry where he earned membership in the "million dollar club." In the early 1950's, he dedicated his life to his Lord's work, serving as Education Director at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Odessa, and First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. After a brief tenure at First Baptist Church in Houston, he joined Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio, serving there for more than 20 years as Education Director and Associate Pastor. After retiring from church ministry, he joined the staff of the Baptist Child and Family Services in San Antonio as Vice-President for Development. During his years in San Antonio, he received many awards and honors and served on numerous boards.
The family wishes to express its gratitude and thanks to those who so lovingly cared for Dad during his illness, including personnel at Autumn Grove Cottage Blanco, Brookdale Hamilton Wolfe, The Inn at Los Patios, and Heart to Heart Hospice.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Porter Loring at 1101 McCullough Ave. A reception at Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 followed by a funeral service.
