

Daniel Alva, age 77, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of service, hard work, and love. A proud Vietnam War veteran, Daniel served two tours, a period of his life that he cherished and often honored by wearing his veterans cap.
After returning from service, Daniel dedicated much of his career to the United States Postal Service, where he worked for many years until retirement. In addition to his steady career, Daniel was a true hustler at heart, constantly finding new ways to keep busy. Whether it was refurbishing classic Ford Mustangs, selling die-cast cars at swap meets, or buying goods at auctions to resell in Mexico, he was always working on something. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to cross paths with many throughout his life.
In 1981, Daniel married Yolanda Martinez, his devoted wife of 43 years. Their marriage was filled with love, mutual respect, and support. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising their children and sharing countless memories. Yolanda stood by Daniel’s side throughout the many seasons of their life together, and their enduring bond was a source of great strength and comfort to him.
Daniel is lovingly remembered by his six children. His daughter, Tanyea Bingham and Christopher Alva from previous relationships, Yolanda’s daughter Jennifer Martinez who Daniel embraced as his own, and together they had three children: Veronica, Daniel Michael, and Kristi Marie Alva. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter, all of whom will carry forward his memory and spirit. Daniel is survived by his sister, Gloria Rodriguez, as well as 5 nieces and 4 nephews.
He will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved to laugh and joke, always keeping those around him smiling. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
A visitation for Daniel will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A rosary will occur Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. A committal will occur Friday, October 25, 2024 from 11:15 AM to 11:45 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
