Daniel was born in California and moved to San Antonio where he graduated from Edgewood as Company Commander of the JROTC program. Immediately following graduation he joined the US Army. After returning from a tour in Vietnam he met his wife and knew that he could not let her go. With his fun loving spirit and tenacity, he gave her no choice but to marry him. Daniel had a long and outstanding career while serving in the Army, demonstrated by some of the numerous medals he was awarded including the Defense Meritorious Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal to name a few. While he retired as a Master Sergeant after 24 years of service, he never let rank or title interfere with his greatest skill, loving people and making them feel welcome. Across continents and countries Daniel would easily make friends and care for those around him with his love of cooking, even picking up multiple languages and friendships along the way. He loved to travel, collect guns, and barbecue for his family. His greatest joy was to spend time with his family and the impact that he had on them will continue to live on in many ways. He was a philanthropist and always enjoyed the Saturday cartoons with his breakfast. All of his loving nicknames for everyone and his role as Papoo are memories that we will always hold close to our hearts.
Daniel was preceded in death by his daughter Chanet Batt, and his parents Mary and Frank Sanchez. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 47 years Alicia, his son Daniel (Raeven) Batt, his daughter Desiree Batt, his grandchildren Reese (Adriana), Nicolai, Abigail, Edward, Emery, Eloise, and Alicia, his siblings Dian (Ruben) Martinez, Dennis Batt, Johnny (Colleen) Sanchez, Frank (Laura) Sanchez, Edward (Michelle) Sanchez, and Sonia (Ben) Leigh, as well as the numerous friends who became and were known as family. We will all cherish the memories we created with him.
