

Daniel was born November 27, 1929 in Rome, New York to the late Angelo and Jennie Cretaro (Viscusi). He joined the U.S. Army in 1949. He served 27 years and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His assignments took him to France, Germany, Panama, New Jersey, Virginia, and Texas, including Fort Hood and Fort Sam Houston.
Daniels awards include Combat Infantryman Badge, Legion of Merit, and The Bronze Star, along with numerous other awards and citations. SGM Cretaro retired from the U.S. Army in 1975. After retiring, he worked for the U.S. Bankruptcy Courthouse in San Antonio, Texas from 1976-1995, and achieved the position of Chief Deputy Clerk of the Courts.
Daniel is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Mary Ellen Cretaro (Davies), parents Angelo and Jennie Cretaro (Viscusi), brothers Edward Cretaro and Peter Cretaro of Rome, New York, sister Angela Cretaro (Dorsagno) of Utica, New York, and Louis Cretaro of Redding, California. He is survived by sons Daniel M. Cretaro (Jennifer) and Steven A. Cretaro, granddaughters Vanessa M. Cretaro Kerr (Edward) and Stephanie L. Cretaro Sieckenius (Michael), and great grandchildren Anthony J. Kerr, Brandon E. Kerr, and Genevieve K. Sieckenius, all residing in the San Antonio area. He is also survived by great niece April Fallon (Jeff) of Watertown, New York, nephews Louis Cretaro and David Cretaro of California, and Edward Cretaro of New York, New York.
Daniel was a member of Windcrest United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Porter Loring North at 1604 and Gold Canyon. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
